₹500, ₹1,000 or ₹5,000 a Month SIP: What It Becomes in 5, 10 and 20 Years
By BlinkMoney Editorial
Compare ₹500–₹5,000 monthly SIP outcomes over 5 to 30 years at assumed 10%, 12% and 14% returns, with step-up and daily-SIP examples.

A ₹1,000 monthly SIP for 5 years puts ₹60,000 into the market. At an assumed 12% a year, that becomes about ₹81,670, a gain of about ₹21,670. At 10% it is about ₹77,437, and at 14% about ₹86,195. These are compounding illustrations, not forecasts. Mutual fund returns are market-linked and are not guaranteed.
The tables below run the same calculation for ₹500 to ₹10,000 a month over 5, 10, 15, 20 and 30 years, at 10%, 12% and 14%. They are followed by the fund categories that fit each horizon, what a 10% yearly step-up adds, and the same money paid as a daily SIP.
How the numbers are calculated
- Each figure assumes the same amount is invested at the end of every month for the full tenure, with no missed or extra instalments.
- The annual return is divided by 12 and applied each month. This is the method behind the BlinkMoney Step-Up SIP Calculator, so the flat figures here match that tool.
- Figures are before expense ratio, exit load, tax and inflation.
- Calculators differ slightly in timing. The AMFI investor booklet illustrates ₹1,000 a month at 10% for 25 years as about ₹13.38 lakh, which assumes contributions at the start of each month. The same case with month-end contributions comes to about ₹13.27 lakh.
- The 10%, 12% and 14% rates are assumptions. Past performance does not guarantee future performance, and equity investments can lose principal, particularly over short periods.
Amount invested
Invested amount is the monthly SIP multiplied by 12 and by the number of years. It does not depend on the return.

The 10% to 14% range is a sensitivity check, not a forecast. BlinkMoney currently quotes 14-16% a year as a five-year historical return for its Save product. That is a historical figure, and these tables do not use it.
Which fund categories suit a ₹1,000 SIP at each horizon
These are categories, not recommendations for particular schemes. SEBI groups mutual fund schemes into equity, debt, hybrid, and other categories, including index funds, under its categorisation framework. Every scheme shows a riskometer level. SEBI's investor material describes equity as volatile and high risk, debt as stable and low risk, and hybrid as moderate, with the exact level depending on the portfolio.
- 5 years: Debt categories such as short-duration or corporate-bond funds, or conservative hybrid funds that hold mostly debt. Equity fits a 5-year SIP only if a fall in year three or four would not force you to stop. Equity can end a 5-year window below the amount invested.
- 10 years: Balanced or aggressive hybrid funds, or large-cap and index equity. A 10-year window covers more market cycles than a 5-year one, but it is still not a guaranteed outcome.
- 15 to 30 years: Equity-led categories such as flexi-cap, large-and-mid-cap and index funds usually form the core. Mid-cap and small-cap categories swing more widely and suit investors who can hold through deep falls.
At ₹1,000 a month, one or two categories is usually enough. Splitting the amount across several SIPs leaves each one small.
What a 10% yearly step-up adds
A 10% yearly step-up raises the SIP to ₹1,100 in year 2, ₹1,210 in year 3, and so on. The table below uses a ₹1,000 starting SIP and a 12% return.
| Horizon | Flat SIP final value | Step-up final value | Step-up amount invested | Extra from step-up |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 years | ₹81,670 | ₹97,482 | ₹73,261 | ₹15,813 |
| 10 years | ₹2,30,039 | ₹3,34,092 | ₹1,91,249 | ₹1,04,053 |
| 20 years | ₹9,89,255 | ₹19,69,180 | ₹6,87,300 | ₹9,79,924 |
Part of the extra value is simply the extra money paid in. Over 20 years the step-up plan invests about ₹4.47 lakh more than the flat plan, and it finishes about ₹9.8 lakh higher. The step-up only works if the higher amounts stay affordable. The BlinkMoney Step-Up SIP Calculator runs this schedule for other starting amounts, fixed rupee increases and inflation-adjusted values.
The same money as a daily SIP
₹1,000 a month is ₹12,000 a year, or about ₹32.88 a day across 365 days. The table compares that daily schedule with the monthly one at 12%.
| Horizon | Monthly SIP final value | Daily SIP final value | Difference | Amount invested (either plan) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 5 years | ₹81,670 | ₹82,194 | +₹524 | ₹60,000 |
| 10 years | ₹2,30,039 | ₹2,31,946 | +₹1,908 | ₹1,20,000 |
| 20 years | ₹9,89,255 | ₹10,01,883 | +₹12,628 | ₹2,40,000 |
The daily version comes out slightly higher because each rupee goes in earlier and compounds more often. It does not assume a better return. A daily plan does not change the rate, the risk, or the fees, and the difference is small compared with the effect of the return rate itself. To test a daily amount against a goal, the BlinkMoney Goal SIP Calculator converts a target into a monthly SIP and a daily equivalent.
Where BlinkMoney Save fits
BlinkMoney Save is a daily-investing product. You start from ₹21 a day, complete digital KYC, and the amount is invested automatically into a multi-asset portfolio. A ₹1,000 monthly plan is about ₹33 a day, which sits above that starting point. The amount available to you, and the current portfolio mix, should be checked in the app.
Save does not map directly onto the fund-category guidance above. Its basket spans several asset classes, and the category table applies to mutual fund SIPs. Compare the two on the portfolio mix and costs, not only on the return assumption. BlinkMoney Save has no lock-in period, and withdrawals or pausing the SIP follow the applicable product terms.
